Ypres Travel Guide
With 99 per cent of it destroyed during the First World War, Ypres (Ieper in Dutch) stands as the archetypal ‘martyr city’. Rebuilt as a place of remembrance, the city and the surrounding Ypres Salient now form a vast open-air memorial, encompassing a dozen UNESCO-listed First World War sites within an active archaeological landscape.
