LIMBURG TOURISM
This province is a gentle outlier from the rest of Flanders. Once a patchwork of duchies tied to both the Low Countries and Rhineland, it gave rise to Limburgish – a melodic dialect with traces of German – and the Voeren exclave between Liège province and the Netherlands. Limburg is the nation’s sweetest area with vast orchards and the friendliest people, who ‘sing’ when they talk. It is also fashionable via its capital Hasselt and where you can explore Belgium’s oldest city and repurposed coal mines plus cycle through shimmering ponds or among treetops.
