BRUSSELS-CAPITAL REGION TOURISM
The Brussels-Capital Region has French–Dutch bilingualism and a highly international population in which nearly 40 per cent of residents are expats. Representing around 180 nationalities and hosting the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and most institutions of the European Union, it ranks among the world’s leading diplomatic hubs and serves as the de facto capital of Europe. Although geographically surrounded by Flanders, it is a politically distinct region and largely francophone, comprising 19 municipalities—including the City of Brussels, which is capital of both Flanders and the French Community. Commonly known as Brussels, the vibrant capital brims with festivals, concerts and folklore, while comic-strip murals, Art Nouveau façades, sculptures and generous green spaces soften its uber urban nature.
