Poperinge Travel Guide
During the First World War, Poperinge earned the nickname ‘Pop’ from British troops as a refuge behind the front lines. Set in the heart of Belgium’s hop-growing area known as Hoppeland, the town has a food scene closely tied to local beers. Its history is marked by striking contrasts—from tall wooden hop poles in nearby fields to pillories once used for military punishment—reflecting both its agricultural and wartime past.
